Grand Openings: Something for Everyone
June 20th, 2016 1:41 am     A+ | a-
It is YOU who will make all the difference.

I am sitting here in Cavan, Ontario and things that I could only dream about are about to happen.  For the longest time everything seemed to move at snail's pace and then - here it is.

Two such things are the completion of the Cavan Art Academy and the Cavan Art Gallery.  A picture is worth a thousand
words and so I apologize ahead by asking you to turn to the photos on www.cavanarts.ca because the webmaster to the site, James Sanders,  613 985 7500 took some awesome photos and posted them to the site.

The school and gallery are on 6.9 acres of what now looks like a park.  It is pretty and I hope that you will come and see it and take your time and bring a lunch to sit at the picnic benches by the creek.  Not a bad way to spend a little quality time.  The Grand Opening is onJuly 1st.  Yes, I know it is hard to do everything you want to on Canada Day, but if you are anywhere near Peterborough or need a "green" break this is the place to come.  And let me say that if you cannot make it that day, there is another day and we are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Free children's art activities...

The Gallery carries the work of specially selected artists:  Lucy Manley and Olga Szaranski for their oil landscapes which were all done plein air and come in many sizes and shapes, Micheal Zarowsky with skillfully conceived bicycle paintings for the most discerning cyclist, Dianne Green with aboriginal works of mythical animals and creatures.  I did not mention Peter Favot, architect and abstract artist extraordinaire, who is donating all his proceeds to the Mission and Hospitals on behalf of his wife and himself. Linda Patterson gives us small, perfect still life and Linda Sorensen's wonderful plein air with red and yellow canoes.  Shawn Hamilton is the only photographer represented by the gallery and she is really gifted...Please check out the bios of these artists on the Gallery menu

The Cavan Art Academy has teen and adult workshops scheduled for summer weekends for all levels and mediums and not just that.  There are Friday Paint Nights, Childrens' Art Camps, (which can be subsidized) and courses coming up in September.  The offerings are varied and worthwhile.

On October 1st and 2nd there is a call to artists to the Outdoor Painting Festival.  We really want you to come and paint here.  The venues are beautiful and since it is a plein air paint out, there are prizes to be awarded:  $1500, 1000 and 500 ++ The entry is only $25 for the
weekend.  Saturday night there is a Jamboree and Sunday an awards ceremony at the Century Barn.  There are 6 children's activities planned for the weekend which are all free, as is the Jamboree.   Along with that is the 'Fresh off the Easel Sale" and the public is invited to come.

"It's summertime and the living is easy."  So goes  the song and Loyalist College is offering Watercolour  Abstract from July 9th to 13th and Abstract Acrylic and I will be teaching those two workshops.  Registration is online at www.loyalistcollege.com
